Six stages between where this timber started and where it ends up. Nothing here is invisible — you can ask about any stage for a specific batch.

Every piece of reclaimed wood used is a piece that didn't require felling a new tree. Where new-harvest timber starts with a forest, reclaimed timber starts with material that already exists — the environmental cost of growth, logging, and initial milling was paid long ago, not by this project.
Reclaimed wood is material that has already served one purpose and is capable of serving another. Rather than treating retired ships and structures purely as waste, the sound timber inside them is separated out and kept in circulation — extending the working life of wood that would otherwise be discarded.
Turning reclaimed timber into usable material is labour-intensive, and that labour is local. Each stage of the journey — recovery, sorting, processing, craftsmanship, and logistics — is work carried out by people, not machinery alone.
